MADAME-ROUGE 10K VINEYARD RUN (and walk)

Saturday 7th January 2012    -    8:00am sharp    -    Start line is at the Miro Vineyard

On the first Saturday of every year there is a sporting event on Waiheke Island that is as remarkable as it is unique. It is on this day that five of the vineyards and 2 of the olive groves in the Onetangi Valley open their properties to the public as they host the Madame-Rouge 10k Cross Country Run (and walk). Now in its fourth year, this charity event supports the Waiheke High School Scholastic Trust. The number of vineyards participating has grown and for the 2012 event the course will include Te Motu, The Hay Paddock, Obsidian, Bonfire Ridge, and Miro Vineyards. It also crosses two olive groves. The course is remarkable because it traverses some of the most beautiful vineyard land in the valley, and also traverses two untouched stands of mature native bush on the Bonfire Ridge and Obsidian Vineyards. The course is steep and runners and walkers need to be fit. If you intend entering, get into training now. One Auckland runner last year said it was by far the best and prettiest cross country course she had ever run on. Entry is available by filling the entry form and faxing to 372 7056 (click here for entry form) and entry costs $25 by credit card . This fee rises to $30 if you register on the day. Janurary is a hot month so the event starts at 8:00am sharp and all contestants need to be on the  course by 7:30am. The race starts and finishes at Miro Vineyard and there is a drinks stations at Te Motu. For those of the walking inclination, there is also a fun walk. Walkers can stop and enjoy the spectacular views and many points along the way.

There is  limited parking at the vineyard so please consider  car pooling, take a Fullers bus, or, if you live close by - perhaps a run or walk to the vineyard as  warm up. You need to be at the vineyard by 7:30am so you can  complete entry formalities, and be at the start line by 7:50am. The start of the running race is at 8:00am sharp. The walk begins at 8:10am. Please have the correct change in cash available for your entry ($30) on the day, if you have not entered previously by fax ($25) and paid already by credit card.

If you have entered by fax and credit card you will need to present your confirmation number at the registration desk at the vineyard to pick up your race number.
