About Miro

Bond Estate is in the Onetangi  winegrowing region and comprises the 4.2 hectare Miro Vineyard  and the outstanding Tapas restaurant called Casita Miro.  Miro is the closest vineyard to Onetangi  Beach, a summer playground for holiday makers. Views from the vineyard are spectacular, looking out over the vines, the village and the sea. Grapes in the region ripen to a rare succulent intensity in the hot summer sun. The mineral rich soil provides the vines with flavour-enhancing elements. Red wines grow best here, but  pinot gris and chardonnay  also produce excellent wines . Drink them with some of the fantastic tapas-style food served at the Vineyard Tapas restaurant (Casita Miro). Sadly this restaurant is no longer  Waiheke’s best kept secret and you will need to book a reservation (0275 123 007 or 09 372 7854)

The Vineyard is managed on near-organic principles and the wines are pure and residue free. Miro Vineyard practises sustainable viticulture. We have created a new wetland on the vineyard which is now home to ducks and native birds. The  vineyard is very steep with 80% north facing slopes. When you visit you will likely meet the vineyard dog.  He is  called Coke who will adore you if you throw him a stick. Near harvest time, he chases birds away from the grapes.

The winemaker is  Barnett Bond and the wine is made on the property. The team at Miro is  committed to producing outstanding and pure appealing wines, and freshly home grown produce for the Tapas restaurant. This is truly one of the most favoured vineyard sites in New Zealand .... We have just  released our second vintage of Syrah. The 2009 Syrah has5% viogner grapes and is even more delicious than the 2008 Syrah which won gold at the Air New Zealand Show in November 2009!

Our 2008 Cabernet / Merlot / Franc / Malbec  won a gold medal and the trophy for the best wine in the show at the recent Upper North Island New Zealand Wine Show. It was also a medal winner in the prestigeous Finger Lakes International wince competition in New York in 2011

Our ROSE  from the 2010 vintage  is one of the lightest most delicate pink wines you will find anywhere.
